[Press Release] Staying Ahead of the Curve

Hot Wax Has Been Doing What Sonic Vision, the new show at the Adler Planetarium, is Doing, for Over a Year Now, and Showcasing New Talent Along the Way

Chicago, Illinois - With the arrival of Sonic Vision, rock artist Moby’s new show at the Adler Planetarium, the time has come to recognize producer Chris Devins and director Ray Galuszka for being the very first to televise electronic music and visuals together in a compelling format. Before Moby breezes through town and captures all the attention, mention must be made of the efforts of TV Channel 19’s Hot Wax show to bring this exciting form to a mass audience (400,000 Chicago households).

Hot Wax just released its “Best of Year 1”, on sale at http://www.hotwaxchicago.com/, which chronicles its journey as it introduced the J Davis Trio, Green Velvet, John Digweed, The Crystal Method, The Jetsons, BT and other acts to Chicago viewers for the first time. The show is especially known for its awe-inspiring, mind bending “visuals”, or visual mixes, which play behind the artists. Televising the visuals was a natural progression for show producer Chris Devins (thejetsons.iuma.com).

“I’d been going to underground parties for years, and my band, The Jetsons, had use them as an integral part of the show for just as long a time. The visual power of mixes by visual jockeys was undeniable, yet I’d never, even overseas, seen them televised. I’d seen screens displaying visuals in some tony Los Angeles hotels, but these always had bad music on them, and no DJ or band in site. We at Hot Wax did the inevitable; we linked the medium and the message. Contrary to what Gil Scott Heron wrote back in the day, the revolution WILL be, IS being televised. You don’t need to wait for Moby to make it okay for you to appreciate music and visuals. We’ve been doing it right here all along.”

Besides being the first to televise actual electronica visuals, the show has also showcased many deserving Chicago bands, bands who you may not yet know, but who you will definitely be hearing from. Chris Devin’s own band, The Jetsons, has released singles featuring Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins) on drums and Saul Schneider (James Iha Band) on bass (in the studio) which did very well locally, being played by Q101, the Zone AND WXRT. Chris tracked in studios all over Los Angeles with Stephen Stuart Short, owner of the legendary Trident Studios in London. MC Phase, who appears on Hot Wax with DJ Urban Kut, is a content producer for Q101’s Sonic Boom radio show. Mab Lab, the Trip Hop band from Indiana, is making some serious noise on the streets. The J Davis Trio has been voted Chicago’s best new band. The list goes on.

Hot Wax televises the Chicago club culture every month on Free Media Cable TV Channel 19. Check http://www.hotwaxchicago.com/ for show times. To speak to the Producer, call Chris at 312-451-8445.
